New friends are like new adventures. You never know what lessons they will teach you. Well, visiting to Pakistan was absolutely just like that. When I stayed over there, I learned a lot of about them - respect, harmony, and hospitality. Sajeel was our handler for Pakistan flight and he stopped by my hotel after his work. We talked about their culture and I was very very impressed how they treat the people, especially foreigners. In fact, I thought taking pictures was very offensive to their culture so I didn’t take almost none in Pakistan but he said “no no, please take pictures as much as you can and share our country to your friends”. Wherever Lucy and I visited, a lot of people came by, took pictures together and laughed together. It is always fun to see new friends. Sajeel, thank you for your gift and keeping my gas as well!!
あたらしい世界に行けば新しい友に会える そんな名言がネットに英語で転がっていたので、そんな経験をパキスタンでした。 パキスタン？え？あのパキスタン？と思う人もいるだろう。僕もその一人だったし正直、アフメドにも計画の時点では「まじで？いくの？」っていうのが 僕の意見だった。「シンジ？日本に行くか？アフガニスタンに行くか？どっちがいい？」とアフメドは冗談で言っていたがパキスタンはニュースや映画で見るよりも 非常に心豊かな人たちが多いことに驚かされた。写真も撮らない方がいいと思ったら現地のハンドラーが「たくさんとって僕らの文化、国をみなさんに紹介してください」と笑顔で対応してくれた。どこに行っても珍しい飛行機のルーシーをバックに皆写真を撮り、英語ができなくても身振り、手振りで言いたいことはよくわかる。「どこからきた？」「アメリカさ」「お〜」という感じで。あたらしい世界は全くテレビや映画で見る世界よりも心に残る。ありがとう、パキスタン！！ここも文化の深い国であるに違いない。
